Monthly Minutes for March 2010
Meeting Date March 18, 2010
Start Time: 8:00 p.m.
Minutes from last meeting accepted by: 1st Rob Curtis 2nd John Williams
Federation Report: Andy Karcich attended the Federation meeting…no real news to report although Andy reported that the Chapter of the Year Award for Bergen Bassmasters was not presented at the meeting. He also mentioned that the Federation is reminding all chapters that their 6-man team roster, with boat insurance information, is due at the April 9, 2010 meeting. Lastly, Kris Lechman advised that the Handicap Outing (Bergen’s 21st!) will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010.
Old Business: The club discussed whether we’ll do a cook-out at the Classic or go out to dinner. When all was said and done, everyone agreed to the cook-out. Speaking of the Classic, the plan is to stay at the Budget Inn in White Hall. It was suggested that if we can sell enough raffle tickets, perhaps we can get the cook out catered. On another note, the Knights of Columbus dinner has been moved to May 15 due to a conflict with our tournament on Lillinoah. Lastly, Nick Albano briefed the club on the raffle and advised that we’ll have a fairly short window of opportunity in selling raffle tickets. He is expecting to get everything finalized the week of March 22 and proposes that, once the raffle tickets are printed, that he’ll mail them out to every member. Each member will be allotted $50.00 in tickets, initially.
New Business: Rob Curtis advised that 17 members have not paid their 2010 dues and recommends that all dues be paid in full no later than the April 15th meeting. In view of the fact that we had a number of prospective new observers, Rob gave them an overview of roles of being an observer and how much fun it is. Frank Freguletti submitted the following motion regarding the 6 pound lunker pool which was seconded by Nick Albano:
- Should two (or more) qualifying fish be caught in the same tournament, the 6 pound lunker pool will be equally split between the fortunate anglers.
- Should there be more than one lunker pool at the time this event occurs (e.g., 6 pound lunker pool #1 is topped out at $1000.00 and we are putting monies into 6 pound lunker pool #2), then the lunker pools shall be combined and split between the fortunate anglers. The number of 6 pound lunker pools that are combined shall be equal to the number of qualifying fish caught in a given tournament.
- Tournament lunker payout would remain as is and would be awarded to the biggest fish regardless of species.
Nick Albano briefed the club on the latest USO collection efforts and informed us that the USO booth, manned by Bergen members (Curtis, Eckel, Vella, Albano, Murphy & Van Wettering) at the Rockland Fishing show raised ~$4,100.00! He also advised that Terry Eckel’s wife, Gloria, donated a 42” HDTV – thanks to Sharp – for mounting in either the New York USO headquarters or at the new Newark Airport USO facility. Lastly, Rob Curtis suggested that the club start a face book page as a means to communicate with more of the world through social networking. He also volunteered to set up the site and maintain it.
Tournament Committee: Jason conducted the draw for our first tournament (Candlewood) of the year. He also reminded all boaters that they must prove proof of insurance. He also mentioned that the Candie opener has been changed to Tuesday, April 27 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and that the Lilli tournament date was changed to May 15, 2010 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Our meeting was concluded at ~ 9:15 p.m.
