"Cross" Anglers at the 2012 Classic
Having never been fished in the history of the Bergen
Bassmasters, there was some anticipation for teams Hayden, Karchich & Ernest
heading up to the 2012 Bergen Classic on Cross Lake. Practice reports were
that the bite was slow, with high skies and temps as well for that matter.
With the main lake not really producing, the majority of fishing took place
in the canals. In the end, it was Team Hayden edging out Team Karcich by
about a pound to take bragging rights for the year. There were a total of
17 anglers who made the trip up with some spending a few extra days during
the week getting some pre-fishing in. All in all it was a fun weekend and
the Saturday night dinner was once again a success!
As for the individual placings, less than 1 lb separated places
1 & 2, with Andy Karcich (20 lbs, 3 oz) edging out
Billy Vella (19 lbs, 14oz) for first place. Andy was on a jig bite
that produced exceptionally well, especially on Day 2. Billy used a
combination approach of fishing mats and chestnuts along with some late day
cranking on day two. Congrats to both anglers!
Rounding out the top five were Steve Rusert(18 lbs, 2 oz),
Alvin Walters(13lbs, 15oz) and Dave Lipari(11lbs, 15oz).
on Day 1 went to Billy Vella with a chunky largemouth that
weighed in at 3lbs, 15oz.
on Day 2 went to Steve Rusert. Steve hauled in a largemouth
as well, weighing 3lbs, 11oz.
Great job Billy & Steve with a couple of nice hawgs!
up will be Lake Hopatcong for the Bergenites. With many docks
and marinas available for choosing, the path less travelled may do the trick
in this one!
See you there!
