Frozen Anglers, "Cranky" Bass, & the John's Rule- Hudson River Finale

With Angler of the Year & Non-Boater of the Year still up for grabs, as well as some Top 6 berths, there was plenty of anticipation for the Bergen Bassmaster's season finale on the Hudson River at Catskill, NY.  The wrinkle thrown in was the 28 degree temperature at blastoff- cold front would have been an understatement!  It was clearly a case of the "Have's and the Have-nots" on this day with decent bags coming only to the Top 7 or 8 finishers out of 22 total anglers.  Crankin' was the preferred technique and interestingly enough it was Non-Boaters finishing 1st, 2nd & 3rd!

In First Place, and grabbing a Top 6 finish was Non-Boater Eddie Schichman.  Clearly doing his homework and having it pay off in a big way, Eddie weighed in 5 Largemouth totaling 14lbs, 3oz using some deep cranking techniques.  Congrats and way to go Eddie!

In Second Place,  weighing in a mixed bag of 4 Smallies and 1 Largemouth was Non-Boater #2 John Messinger.  John's limit sack came in at 12lbs, 12oz by way of- you guessed it- the crankbait!  Nice job John!

Also with a mixed bag limit of 4 Smallmouth & 1 Largemouth was our Third Place finisher, Non-Boater #3 John Williams.   Having been seen parked with his boater on a point for some time, "Fishman Rocky" cranked his way to a weight of 11lbs, 8oz.  Great job Johnny!

Coming in Fourth Place and also taking a place in the Top 6 for the year was Mr. Consistency, John Hayden.  John weighed in a limit sack of Largies totaling 11lbs, 7oz.  Nice work and congratulations John!

Taking Fifth Place and vaulting himself into a nice Top 10 finish for the year was Rob Curtis.  Having found the hot spot of the day with enough keepers for himself and his Non-Boater Mr. Williams, Rob weighed in a split-bag of 2 Largies & 2 Smallies totaling 11lbs, 3oz.  Way to go and great finish Rob!

Lunker Honors went to our 7th Place finisher, John Ernest, who weighed in a stout 3lb, 13oz Smallie.  The day's finish also clinched another coveted Angler of the Year Award for John.  Congrats and nice year Johnny!

And with a 12th Place finish on the day, Frank Freguletti cemented his spot for Non-Boater of the Year, also having finished 3rd overall for Angler of the Year!  Congrats Frank!

That puts a bow on another great year for the Bergen Club.  It was pretty exciting right down to the last tourney with a lot having been decided on that final day.  Many thanks to everyone in the club for helping out with all of our projects throughout the year- know that you've made a difference for many!

The Bergen Bassmaster Annual Awards Dinner will be held Friday, November 16th at Biaggio's Restaurant in Paramus.  With a bunch of great stuff for the auction as well as a slide show, it's expected to be a great finale!

 See you there!
