The Bergen Bassmaster Annual Half-Nighter for 2012 was hosted by the mighty
Lake Mahopac. A popular lake with many in the club, the goal was to beat
the early summer heat and save fish as well as anglers! Community holes
ended up producing for a few who ended placing and the weather, with the
exception of some early breezy sprinkles, cooperated fairly well.
First Place and moving himself into 1st place in the
Angler of the Year standings was
former 2010 AOY, John Ernest. John weighed in a limit of
smallies for a whopping total of 16 lbs, 8 oz! John was
throwing a Bass Bustin' Lures spinner
bait with a 4" swim bait trailer (any other size caught him stugatz he
said). Look out, here comes Johnny!
Placing Second was Club President, Nick Albano.
Nick weighed in "1 large and 4 small" for a bag weight of 14 lbs, 5 oz.
With his finish, Nick jumped himself up 3 spots in the
Angler of the Year race to 5th.
He was drop-shotting in 35 feet of water, which really didn't produce in
practice rumor had it. Well it paid off when it counted- Nice job Prez!
Placing Third, and moving himself within striking distance
(6th overall) of Angler of the Year
was Mr Consistency himself, John Hayden. John
weighed 1 largemouth and 4 smallies for a 13 lb, 14 oz bag
limit. A spinner bait was the ticket for John as well, but it was the slow
rolling pace that made the difference he said. Way to go John!
Coming in Fourth Place was 2010's
Rookie of the Year, Dave Lipari.
Fishing a black & blue Bass Bustin' Lures
spinner bait paid off early with a limit of smallies for Dave and a
kicker largemouth came later by senko from under a dock, for a bag weight of
13 lbs, 1 oz. Great job Dave!
Our 5th Place finisher was Battleship captain
Wayne Wilcken. With the biggest move up in the standings for the
tournament (8 spots!), Wayne weighed in a mixed-bag of 2 largemouth and 3
smallmouth for a limit total of 12 lbs, 11 oz. Nice one
With a narrow 2 oz margin of victory, Lunker Honors went to
1st place finisher, John Ernest. John weighed in a 4
lb, 2oz huss of a smallmouth on a big spinner bait with a 4" swim
bait trailer. Have a day John!
Continuing with the "Beat the Heat" theme, the Bergen club will be
conducting its Annual All-Nighter at - you guessed it - Candlewood Lake.
It'll be 10 hours of fishing with blast off at 8pm.
See you there!
