"Couldn't Stand the Weather"
Candlewood Lake: Chapter 2

Bluebird summer skies and a later than usual blast off time due to potentially unsafe launch conditions forcing a last minute change in boat ramp location cutting into the morning bite just may have been factors in some tough fishing conditions at legendary Candlewood Lake. With only 5 Bergen anglers posting double-digit bag weights on the day, and 25% of the field bringing only 1 keeper to the scales, the summer stage of "Candy", ranked 27th on Bassmaster Magazine's "Top 100 Best Bass Lakes" proved to be a bit more challenging than most of the participants may have envisioned. Boat traffic may have also contributed, as the Connecticut lake is known as much for it's summer fun as it is for it's fishing and this recreational season was in full swing!

Here's the 1st - 5th place roundup and Lunker winner:

Finishing in 1st Place and winning his 2nd tournament of the 2013 points season was Bill Vella. Billy had a mixed bag limit of 1 largemouth and 4 smallies which weighed 13 lbs, 7 oz. The win also puts Billy in a 1st-place tie for Angler of the Year. Way to go Billy!

In 2nd Place was club newcomer Jeff Allen. With a mixed-bag limit of 3 largies & 2 smallies, Jeff weighed in 11 lbs, 13 oz on the day. With his finish, Jeff moves himself in the top 10 (10th) for Angler of the Year! Keep it going Jeff!

Our 3rd Place finisher was John Giordano. With a mixed limit of heavy with largemouth (4) which weighed in at 11 lb, 6 oz, it was a great day for the new boater! Great job Johnny G!

Finishing in 4th Place was another club newcomer, Mark Fillipini. Mark came to the scales with a split-bag of largemouth & smallies and weighed in with 10 lbs, 1 oz. He definitely was able to find the bigger fish. Mark moves himself into 12th for Angler of the Year, still with a great chance for a Top 6 finish! Nice work Mark!

Coming in 5th Place and moving himself into a 1st place tie for Angler of the Year was Jason Mordhorst. Jason weighed a limit of 4 smallmouth and 1 largemouth for an even 10 lbs. It's been a roller-coaster type of season for Jason, with finishes of 1st, 17th, 17th, 1st and now 5th. Keep goin Jason!

Lunker Honors went to Mark Scocco, who brought a slob largemouth to the scales weighing 5 lbs, 1 oz! Nice fish Mark!

The teams have been picked by the three captains as the Bergen Club will be heading to Lake Champlain for it's Annual 2-Day Classic. Ranked 16th Best Bass Lake by Bassmaster Magazine for 2013, there will plenty of pre-fishing and will definitely be a great weekend!
