"Smallies Rule, Record Falls"

Great Sacandaga Lake

With a reputation for "cookie cutter" bass, The Great Sacandaga Lake not only held up it's end of the bargain, but produced a new Bergen Bassmaster record for total fish caught by 20 fish, as well as a Bergen record 2nd all-time for total weight for the fishery!   Largemouth bass, however, were on hiatus, as not a single greenback was weighed on the day!  And the ever tight and shifty race for Angler of the Year continued with a new leader emerging after the 3rd Bergen points tourney was complete.

Here's the 1st - 5th place roundup and Lunker winner:

Finishing in 1st Place and moving himself into the top slot for Angler of the Year by 4 points was Mark Scocco.  Mark weighed a limit of smallies for a total of 10lbs, 10oz.  He also weighed the only 3 lb fish on the day.  His winning pattern was a combination of flukes and tubes in brown-crawdad.  With back-to-back finishes of 2nd & 1st place, Mark seems to be in the zone!  Great job Mark!

In 2nd Place was 1st year Bergennite Vern Gatson.  With Top-5 finishes in 2 out the first 3 tourneys, Vern continues to show some serious skills!  His 9lb, 12oz limit sack of smallies came by way of jig-headed Senkos and crankbaits and moved him into 5th place for Angler of the Year!  Keep it up Vern!

Our 3rd Place finisher was the ever-consistent "Co-Angler Extraordinaire" Frank Freguletti.  Also having Top-5 finishes in 2 out of the first 3 points tournaments, Frank moved himself into a two-way tie for 2nd place in the Angler of the Year standings with a limit of smallies totalling 9lbs, 4oz.  Flukes and Senkos were the ticket for Frank on this day.  Nice going Frank!

Taking 4th Place was one of last year's Top 6, Eddie Schickman.  Earning his first points check of the year, Eddie's limit of smallies weighed in at 8lbs, 14oz and were caught using tubes on deep rocks.  His finish moves him up into a two-way tie for 8th place for Angler of the Year!  Nice work Eddie!

Coming in 5th Place was Doug Giachino.  It's been an up-and-down year for Doug, with 9th, 27th and now a 5th place finish.  That being said, he's currently in a 12th place tie for AOY, well within striking distance of a Top 6 finish.  Doug used a dock pattern to produce 5 smallies which weighed 8lbs, 13oz, just an ounce behind our 4th place finisher!  Great job Doug!

Lunker Honors  went to 1st place finisher on the day, Mark Scocco.  As stated earlier, Mark had the only fish on the day to reach the 3lbs and his Lunker smallie weighed just that, exactly 3.0 lbs!  Congrats and great day Mark!!!

With Bergen's 13th Annual Open Night Tournament slated for July 20th on Candlewood Lake, it will be a little bit before the next points tourney, Bergen's Annual All-Nighter, which will take place July 27th on Lake Mahopac, launching out of MacDonald's Marina.  The tounament will run from 8pm-6am.

 See you there!
