Tournament Interview
2009 Bergen All-Night Open Tournament
Our 9th annual Open Night tournament, held on Lake Hopatcong 7/25, was enjoyed by 38 anglers in 19 boats. With a weather forecast calling for scattered T-storms, the field was slightly smaller than average. Fortunately, Lake Hopatcong did not receive a direct hit and we only experienced two small rain bursts. There was no alewife (baitfish) activity and the fishing was quite tough. Despite the slow action, many anglers, including a few NJBF State Team veterans managed to haul in some decent bags. Over half of the filed limited out and the move to Hopatcong from Greenwood was a good idea. I thank John Williams who assisted in many ways before and after the tournament and Mark Scocco who provided coffee and donuts Sunday morning and assisted the tournament committee. It was also good to see our old friend, Joe Benevenia, who I enjoyed fishing with. I also want to thank Robert Curtis, our Bergen secretary and Mahwah Police Detective who assisted with boat check and safety compliance. Other Bergenites supporting the event include Jason Mordhorst, Scott Mitchell, John Ernest, Lance Cahoon (and son David), Rich Kalanz and Alvin Walters. The Top Five Teams received cash pay outs and the next Five Team received Gift Packs from our Tournament Sponsor – Frank’s Tackle. After the weigh-in we took a vote and all except two anglers agree that Hopatcong should be the site of our 2010 - 10th Annual Open All-Nighter.
