2nd Open Tournament to benefit the troops c/o the USO
to be held on Lake Champlain and managed by the
Plattsburgh Bass Club (NYBF-TBF) and the FLW
August 29, 2010

Finally, after many e-mails and telephone work, it can be confirmed that the Plattsburgh Bass Club, c/o Rick Perry has taken the bull by the horns and will manage a 2nd benefit tournament for the USO. This time, the recipients will be for the troops c/o the USO of Fort Drum, NY. As Bergen did with the 9/27/09 Hudson River Challenge, we can expect Rick and his team and Ben Wright (NYBF) to make this a memorable and productive event. As if the 9/27 TBF trailer was not good enough, for the Champlain event, Rick has managed to enlist the FLW! As a major FLW pro event ends on 8/28, the FLW trailer will stay put and the national FLW staff will run the benefit tournament.
To assist Rick and his team, as a consultant, I will be attending the initial meeting with Rick, his team and USO reps in Plattsburgh sometime in February. I will also help out with publicity and in obtaining prizes. Although Rick will be releasing many more details, I can say that he is looking to include hefty payouts (via sponsor cash donations plus entry fees) and will schedule a participant get-together and dinner Saturday night with awesome raffle prizes. Furthermore, Rick informs me that beginning with the big Pro tournament to the Sunday Open Benefit event, the FLW will dedicate the entire week to the US military. That said, this project is still in the infant stages and you can expect more exciting details in the coming weeks.

Weather: Mid sixties, cloudy with occasional drizzle and light breeze from south (perfect fishing weather)
Water temps: Mid sixties

Notes:
No doubt threat of bad weather turned off some fair weather fishermen - too bad,
they missed out on a great day. Even with a 15 inch minimum, the fishing was above average.
Over half the field (24 of 45 Teams) received cash or a prize pay out!
The TBF c/o Robert Cartridge provided their professional 38 foot weigh-in trailer complete with stage,
sound system, software program and staff of three.
Joe Sancho arriving from a Top Ten Stren Series
finish at Lake Gaston picked up Tom Joyce Jr and started the tournament slightly late
They still placed.
Pete Gluszek arriving at noon met with Mike de Avila and cameraman
and started the tournament very late. Duo still caught some fish and successfully
filmed a LUNKERVILLE WFN TV episode (date TBA)
Due to a surprise bachelor party, Mike Iaconelli had to cancel and sent everyone his regards.
We appreciate the fact that he promoted the Hudson River Challenge on his website.
Revenue collected for the USO (Raffle plus Tournament) = Approx $7,500
Making special presentation to the winning Team of two glass/wood enclosed WTC flags
was Christine Colucci, VP, USO of Metropolitan New York. Christine gave a nice speech
thanking Bergen and all participants for their support.
