On 04/29/06, at Susquehanna Flats, Bergen Bassmasters held its opening tournament of the 2006 Season. The weather was cooperative, with a slight wind, the Bass weren't so cooperative with more then half of the members skunking.
Pat was a different story, he was the only member to catch a limit, and with a weight of 12 lbs. Winning him first place. Pat was using a Bomber A fire tiger shallow crank bait. He was fishing a point with deep water nearby, and all his fish came from where rocks from the shoreline entered into the water.
Second Place goes to Alan Goldman bringing in 3 fish weighing 9 pounds. Alan was fishing from the back of Nicks boat. Alans 3 fish were caught by 9:30am. They were caught on a 7 inch Junebug worm, that he just purchased at Walmart the previous night because he was out of worms. Hence rendering him near wormless.
Third place was caught by John Giordano with 2 Bass weighing 6lbs 7 ounces. His fish came between 1pm and 1:30 pm, fishing from the back of John Haydens boat. John was throwing a chartreuse and white spinner bait off a rocky drop off.
Fourth place goes to Terry Eckel with 2 fish weighing 5 lbs 12 ounces. He caught his largemouths on crankbaits by rocky shorelines. Terry did not prefish for the tournament and still walked away in fourth place.
Fifth place honors was taken by John Hayden who caught 2 fish weighing 4 lbs 8 ounces. He was fishing waters from 4 to 18 feet, working shallow to deep. Although he did pre-fish with a guide, he found his own deep water point where he caught his fish.
Honorable mention goes out to everyone else who indeed actually caught a fish. We never fished here before, it was tough but we all tried our best!
